Cute and cuddly at first sight - but not at last sight for this hoverfly, held so tenderly and gazed at so deeply by the jumping spider.

I get a little emotional looking at this. Do you?

Wow, spectacular!! Exceptional detail and DOF. The eyes have it - along with the fuzzy legs, sharp wing, and BG
Really fine work, Mike!

This image is so cool and really interesting. and very unique. Great composition.

Loving both Hover flies and Jumping spiders, this makes me feel the conflict I always do with predator and prey. It’s the way things work, but still affects me as it obviously does you. I think it’s worse when a spider has a bee or a spider wasp has a spider. Ugh!

But as far as a dynamic and engaging photo - you struck gold. The repeating horizontal lines and that crisp plane of focus is fabulous. I love the background, too and how well it isolates this tense scene. Bravo!

This is a totally awesome image, Mike. The lighting and detail are fantastic as are the relative poses of the spider and hoverfly.

Mike: Ditto @Kris_Smith and @Dennis_Plank . Fantastic capture of an incredible find and moment. >=))>

Mike,

This one looks good as presented with a very strong composition. Your use of diffused flash provides some ideal, soft highlights in the spider’s eyes and brightens up the hairs. Very sharp and the limited DOF is on the important parts of the image…Jim

Oh, this is fantastic, Mike. What is not to love. Such wonderful sharp details in both the prey and the predator. :+1: :+1:

Mike, this is a great look at this bit of nature in action. The details, especially the hair, on both critters stand out very well. The eyes are also great. BTW, I can tell this is a big crop, because the laws of optics rule out this much dof at the apparent magnification shown, unless it’s a stack. It’s a great find.

Thanks @Sandy_Richards-Brown @Kris_Smith @Shirley_Freeman @Bill_Fach @Gill_Vanderlip @Dennis_Plank @Jim_Zablotny @Mark_Seaver. This is proving to be a good month for jumping spiders. They tend to be quite compliant in front of a massive diffuser and human!

Late to the party. A very well deserved EP!

The intense look of the googly eyed spider at his beloved is priceless.

Great colours and poses by both characters, and technically wonderful. Doesn’t get much better!
