Description
I always love the Fibonacci spirals of ferns unfurling. I was out walking and saw this one but didn’t have my macro lens, so I picked it and took it home to shoot.
Hi Chris, Wow! That is an amazing shot! The brown and green almost look like yarn at that magnification. I think that texture is what really makes it stand out. Shooting it against the black background helps all the details pop.
Excellent, Chris. The black background worked beautifully. We had a field trip to the state capitol last Wednesday for cherry blossoms and i found a nice one of these with unfortunately, a beauty(?) bark background. It didn’t come out anywhere nearly as well as this and I thought it might not be a good idea to pick it
Great texture and colours. The black background works well. May I suggest a 90 degrees ccw rotation and then a reflection in a vertical line (horizontal flip)? Beautiful subject.
Chris, early fern fronds are always a fine subject. You’ve got excellent details here with the soft lighting. The slight mottling in the background is also a good touch. I really like the sense of the frond unrolling.
Oh this is really nice, Chris. I agree with @Bill_Fach it reminds me of a party favor. Such nice details captured, and it stands out so well against the black BG. Well done!
Ferns get me everytime! I love them from the beginning, till their end. You captured this beautifully with the black background and crystal clear fern. Well done! That made me laugh about seeing a “party favor” image in your mind….now I will always think of it that way too!
A really striking image — the black background works well and helps the subject stand out immediately. At first glance it is not entirely clear what it is, which adds a bit of intrigue and draws you in to look closer.
On closer inspection, the detail is impressive, especially the fine fibres which have a real texture to them, almost like strands of wool. The focus does feel just a touch soft when viewed more closely, which may come down to shutter speed or depth of field, but the overall detail is still very well captured.
Overall, a very eye-catching and well observed subject.
