Caught this damselfly basking in the late afternoon sun and he was cooperative enough to give me about 30 seconds of shooting time before heading off to parts unknown. He must have heard the starter’s gun.>=))>

Second image is just a tighter crop. I’m partial to the wider view. Your thoughts?

I like the diagonals in the first one, but they do take my eye off the basking insect. Unusual for them to sit for so long unless eating or cold. Can you expand the canvas on the right of the cropped version? Some magic fill in Photoshop might do the trick. Too bad it wouldn’t get in line with your sensor.
For the cropped version I find myself wanting to see the details of the eye, however, the image seems ‘off balance’ with the eye pushed to the far right of the scene. Therefore, I prefer the uncropped version with the diagonals.
Bill, I like all of the diagonals in the uncropped version, including the damselfly’s long shadow. Overall there’s a good sense of dynamism and sense of place. The crop shows off the head and thorax nicely as a portrait with interesting light, but the oof abdomen tip is distracting.
