Questions to guide your feedback

How does this image work in terms of composition? It is a little crop so I have room for the bird on any side. What position would work best?

Image Description

Osprey on the hunt.

Technical Details

I finally got the chance to test my new wildlife kit with some birds in flight action. I’m quite happy with the result.

Nice view of the eye, David. I think you were trying to convey altitude with this composition, but I don’t think you need quite that much sky under the bird. Other than that minor issue a fine image of this bird.

I get the sense the Osprey is soaring and looking down for prey, so for that reason I’m okay with the space below. Very nice detail.
P.S. Good to see you today, David. Fernhill is a great place, probably the best I’ve seen in the area for birding and walking. Hope to get back there at an earlier hour.

@Dennis_Plank and @Allen_Brooks thank you for the comments, much appreciated.

Allen, it was great meeting you in person. I will keep you posted on the pending arrival of White Pelicans during their migration layover. Should be a great opportunity.

Very nice capture, with excellent whites in the processing. With the dynamic range of the larger photosites on the full frame sensor and the newest NR software, you’ll love the leeway of opening up shadows under wings.

Looks like you have a great BIF rig! Super capture. I’ve had results I love with 1.4X and 2X TCs added to my 600 and now to the 100-500.

Nice Big BIF shot here David. Great look at the eye, and nice handling of the whites.

@Diane_Miller and @Ed_Williams thanks for the kind comments. I truly appreciate them.

Diane, I’m thinking of getting the 1.4x to add to the rig…you’re right the full frame sensor is much better than the cropped sensor of the Fujifilm camera. Glad I went back to full frame.

While I am still an amateur in bird photography, I have always wanted to go to Costa Rica to photograph the exotic birds there. Now that I am retired, I am looking for a tour/workshop early next year. Very exciting.

Hi David, nice BIF image with nice exposure and good look at the eye. I could see trying another composition that had more upper sky to fly into and less on the bottom. Nice catch.
