Out on a Limb

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was mowing the lawn Monday and spotted this little lady perched on a redbud twig right at eye level. Dragonfly activity has almost ceased at our house so I shut down the mower and got out the camera. She was kind enough to provide a number of poses and didn’t even ask for a model release or portion of the royalties.>=))>

Specific Feedback

The BG is the neighbor’s yard across the street. Too boring?

Deadly focus and focal plane!! Gorgeous subject with perfect lighting and pose. She’ll take her pay in mosquitoes and the like.

Not too boring for me. I always enjoy exploring the detail in good dragonfly images, and this is definitely a good one.

Exquisite detail - love all the tiny little hairs and eye. Nice pose.
See, good things come out of mundane upkeep chores like mowing!

You guys are killing me with these insect close-ups. Tack sharp and do not mind the shallow DOF. Lighting is choice as well…Jim

Bill, what a shot. Details where they need to be. BG just makes him stand out nicely.

Bill, she looks great, set of well by the smooth background. Her details are outstanding, especially the shadows thrown by her wings across her eye and thorax.
