I was out near the Desert Museum near Tucson AZ when many butterflies were passing through.

I tamed back the background, any thoughts if it should be less saturation.

Dean, the saturation looks fine on my screen. This feels like nit picking, but there are a few strands of a flower below that is coming into the frame in the BLC that I find pulling my eye. This is a fine shot of the lady. I’m hoping in the spring I can get out to the botanical gardens and shoot some. Last year was just too busy for me.
Wonderful detail! and pose! The BG looks good but I think a good tweak would be to un-tame the flower it is perched on – just a bit. The color is nice but the contrast is noticeably low. The triangle made by the stem in the LL catches my attention and could be worth removing. Lovely image in any case!
This is great, Dean. Well composed with good detail and a pleasing color palette. No issues with the saturation; I like how the purple flows through the image. Well done.
Nice job on this one, Dean. I certainly wouldn’t desaturate the background any further-it’s on the verge of looking unnatural and any more would take it over the brink for me.
The update is better but I would select the butterfly, inverse it and desat the BG yellows (and maybe greens) a bit. The “greens” in the BG were more pleasing to my tastes in the OP.
Dean: Sorry to be so late to this party but this is a terrific shot and the repost makes it better IMO. Great detail in the wings, head and perch which shows really good attention to your plane of focus. Superbly crafted image. >=))>
Dean, this is a fine look at this Painted Lady. The tighter crop (removing the bits of flower, bottom left) is a nice improvement although the Lady’s colors look more realistic in the original. This is a scene that is common here in the Mid-Atlantic in the fall with the Mist Flower being a native that is very attractive to butterflies, especially Painted Ladies. Well done.
