Really Late Bloomer + Follow Up

Updated

I jumped the gun a bit yesterday and posted before examining more of the shots in this session. Got the focus plane a little more parallel to the wings and also like the overall surroundings better.

Image Description

We have yet to experience any cold weather and yesterday it was over 80 degrees and this little lady was patrolling the pentas in our garden. She was pretty active and I was hand holding and auto focusing the entire time and only got a handful of marginal keepers. This one had the best combination of focus on the eye and most of the wing.

Is the focus softness on the wings too much? Acceptable compromise?

She’s in very good shape for the time of the year, Bill. The slight softness at the tip of the wing isn’t noticeable unless one is really looking for a nit to pick. An excellent image of this late bloom and butterfly.

Bill, she seems in perfect shape, and the bloom and BG are nice. The bit of softness is not noticeable, and doesn’t compromise this sweet image at all.
I’m envious of your 80 degree weather ! our storms are rolling in, and just at king tides

Bill, the updated view is much better as it shows off the Monarch and her environment beautifully. I can see minor wear and tear in her wings, which is a good extra detail.

Bill, IMO the second version is even better, and might be better still with a bit more brightness. like the first.
nice work !

I definitely prefer the upper shot, as it shows the clear, unshaded colors of both bf and flower. The busier BG doesn’t bother me. Lucky you to still get these great butterflies.

I like the upper one best too, Bill. It is brighter and I also like that it shows the environment he is in nice. He does look in good shape for this time of year.
