Farewell 2024
Hello 2025
repost - 2024 sunset jpg
repost - 2025 sunrise jpg
Image Description
Just for fun I decided to take a photo on the last day of 2024 at sunset and my first photo of 2025 at sunrise. As I watched the sunset last evening I was reminded of all the blessings I have had in 2024. And as I popped up this morning to catch the first sunrise of the year, I felt thankful for whatever lies ahead. . . . taking it one moment and one memory at a time.

Linda, thank you for sharing this amazing year ending sunset scene. You’ve added a very positive spin to a year now in our rear view mirrors. Along with nature’s harsh environmental events we saw this last year we can surely find an upswing to the opening of the New Year with this closeout image from last year…
WOW, not sure why but the sunrise had not populated when I first looked here. I saw the comments below and took another look. They both provide inspiration on the transition here, Linda. I think the sunset works best for me. Maybe because all I ever photograph these days are sunrises. …

I’m partial to both – just so it’s pretty or dramatic – and both of these are! Hope to see lots more from you in 2025!!
PS, wondering why they’re gifs. JPEG gives better quality for photographic work. The second looks fine but there is a lot of compression in the first.
Humm. . . .good question, Diane. I was using TK’s web sharpening/web formatting like I always have. Thanks for mentioning it, I’ll have to check it out.
I see what you mean, Diane. The sunset image has a lot of banding going on!
Do check that out and let us know – it shouldn’t be giving you a gif. I use only a smattering of the TK stuff, as PS layers, preferring to stay in the LR/PS environment.
Diane, I’ve reposted both images exported from PS as jpgs. Not sure that is the best way to save for web and my eyes/computer are not able to discern any differences. Can you??
Hard to be sure as moving from the previous to new has to go thru the other image – better to post the versions next to one another. But not a huge difference except the compression is better in the second version of the first image.
The safest way for me to export from PS is the legacy Save For Web as everything is right there so I can be sure, and sticky. The easiest way is from LR with a preset for NPN – but I don’t remember if you use LR.
And even if these look identical, a gif just isn’t what you want for photography. Lots of info with a quick Google search on jpeg vs gif.

Not to belabor this topic, Diane. Clearly I have more to explore. This last repost is done from PS Save for WEb legacy. I use ACR and it does have save as jpg. However, I don’t have a preset for NPN. Do you know where I can get that? Thanks for taking the time.
@Paul_Breitkreuz - thanks so much for taking a look . . .and a second look. I’m with you sunrises are my manta. I had to make a special effort to get out at sunset (New Year’s Eve to boot) to get this one.

I don’t know if ACR has presets you can save for the various exports to different sources. I didn’t get it from NPN, I just put in the settings I want for NPN in the LR export dialogs – image size in pixels, convert to sRGB (profile embedded automatically), limit file size by any needed JPEG compression. Then save it as a preset named NPN. But save for web from PS should do the job perfectly if you check the right boxes, and they should be sticky. Same difference but you just have one unless you change it on the fly.

Linda, what a great way to end the old year and begin a new one! I’m especially attracted to the quiet subtlety of the sunset view with all of it’s gentle color gradations. Your timing for that shot was impeccable.

Thanks Diane. I did experiment with your suggestions and found PS web savings works great. Appreciate your help.
Thanks @Mark_Seaver, for your kind thoughts. Must admit I am more into sunrises than sunsets person. I did have to do quite a bit of exploring our area to find a suitable frame . . . . and timing . . .for this capture. It was a fun adventure though.
I just love that time of day!
Thanks for sharing, and Happy New Year!
