Rippled Reflection #1

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

After 4 years of trying, I finally have a good stand of Cardinal Flower in a pot in my pond. The red flowers make a dramatic addition to the reflections near the base of the small cascade. I’ve been having a lot of fun trying to catch the mix of Red (from the flowers), Green (from the foliage) and Blue (from the sky).

Specific Feedback

As always with reflections you get the strongest reflection colors when the reflected subject is in the sun, while the water with the reflection is in the shade. Given the mottled sunlight that gets to my pond, the conditions are right at specific times of the day. A reasonably fast shutter is needed to keep the reflections from blurring. I’m working on a reflection series similar to my ice views.

Technical Details

R5, 180 mm macro, 1/160 s, f/8, iso 3200, tripod. Denoised in LR.

Mark: A unique image for sure and nicely conceived and executed. Reminds me of a tie dyed shirt  . Hope this is the first of many. >=))>

Quite a color treat, Mark. I like it as posted.

Mark, this one is outstanding and I know Timothy Leary would get some psychedelic vibes gazing at this scene. No thoughts or ideas for changes here for me… :+1: :+1::mushroom:

Groovy! I’m wondering what the orange thing at top right can be. Like Bill, I hope we get many more.

A wonderful abstract with an excellent range of colors. One thing that’s very interesting is the 3D aspect of the image with very delicate shadowing. Looks good as presented…Jim

Very interesting shot, Mark. I’m looking forward to what else you might capture with the reflections. I think it is nice when you come up with an idea and it plays out, The color combo is really neat.

Mike, I don’t know what the orange spot is…might be refraction from a fallen leaf below or a bit of leaf floating. Since it’s a woodland pond and it’s fall, there are lots of leaves and leaf bits.
