Repost brighter overall and saturated leaves:

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We planted bee balm in our garden last year and it is now in bloom. I brought in a bloom to my hummingbird set up. Attracted by sugar water.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts on composition? For example, size of bird vs the plant? Cropping?

The f/20 and flash did a good job of getting everything in focus, Allen. The hummingbird looks good, though to my eye a bit underexposed. I think the lighting setup may need some tweaking as the Bee Balm, particularly the leaves, looks rather flat. The relative size of the plant and hummingbird is always weird with this plant, but it does provide a good sense of scale on how small these birds are.

Thanks Dennis, I did some tweaking on the leaves and ended up lightening them. I guess too much.

@Dennis_Plank … I did a repost - brighter.
I did the tweaking because some sugar water had dropped down on the leaves so I needed to do some clean up.

I am not real fan of multiflash setups. Even so you Got good detail nice composition. I think the front of the face between the iron would be needs to be brightened a bit

The Repost is much improved over the original Your flash placement is pretty good with some essential shadows produced with the lighting. The leaves have some blotchiness which might be due to microhairs on the leaves. Otherwise, a nice comp and like the position of the hummingbird to the flower…Jim
