The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I found this curly piece of dried giant kelp on the beach at the Crescent City, CA Lighthouse. It was near some huge driftwood logs and I decided to see how the textures went together. I have a series of twelve images with different types of driftwood and this one curly strand of dehydrated kelp cord that I’m considering posting some or all in a project later.
Specific Feedback

Hi Ed, this is a great shot. Although I usually like colour images better, in this case I think that the BW version is really stunning. It gives a sense of peace, totally contradicting the power of the ocean where you found it. My very first impression was to turn it by 90 degrees. I hope you don’t mind that I just tried it. PS: I would love to see the whole driftwood series.
Hi Ed, Really lovely image and so well seen. I agree completely with Janna about the quiet strength of the B&W version and how it works really well rotated. I join her call to see the series!
Wonderful!!! Fantastic find, well photographed and presented! I love both, but think the color version has some very nice subtlety. For a series, though, the B/W is probably more unifying. I would also love to see a series of this!
Ed: I love this kind of stuff. Really good idea to construct this scene. Since I’m an unapologetic color junkie I do have a small preference for the color version but the conversion is excellent. A wonderful concept superbly executed. >=))>
Ed, the juxtaposition of textures and shapes is excellent. I’m slightly inclined to prefer the color version, but both are great. I also get the feeling the the kelp is a monogram…you just need to get the initials CS…
@jana_mengede, @guy, @Paul_Breitkreuz, @Diane_Miller, @Barbara_Djordjevic, @Bill_Fach and @Mark_Seaver. Wow! thanks everyone very much for your kind comments and suggestions for this image. I will definitely post the project based on this feedback. I thing this one was the one I liked the best, so I hope the project holds up. I think I’m also going to turn all of them over in landscape orientation to be consistent. Thank you.
