Description

While playing hide and seek with this Praying Mantis as I attempted to photograph him (yes it is a male) he climbed to the backside of the leaf and presented me with this silhouette.

Paul: Even the silhouette of this guy is fearsome. A terrific find and a superb final result. >=))>

So well seen and shot, Paul. I’d be tempted to dodge (or otherwise lighten) the darker bit of leaf (URC). But that’s minor - this reminds me of the shadow puppets of Bali!

Perfectly framed and captured Paul. And a great sense of mystery with this shot. How can you tell if it’s a male or female?

Paul, this is a great catch. The lines in the leaf show nicely in the backlight and his shadow is nice and sharp.

What a find and what a shot, Paul. Well done!

@Ted_Forman Males are typically smaller, have longer wings and have more segments in the abdomen (8 vs 6).

Simply great.
I don’t see you → you don’t see me is such a funny story about the picture.

This is so cool!! Amusing in the distorted shape and wonderful in the precision of detail!

Perfectly captured Paul. I like the contrast between the backlit leaf shade and the black silhouette. A shadow play perhaps.
