About This Image

Another from the shad run that I liked. The cormorant is just eying the osprey with a fresh catch just above it. Pure luck.

Why This Image?

The look from another bird is something that I have rarely captured when I have been photographing eagles or ospreys with fish at water level. Lots of different birds are present at the shad run but interaction is something special

What I’m Trying to Express or Explore

Interaction with a bird in the water versus a flying Osprey with a fish just above it.

Where Feedback Would Help Most

The background is busy I know but you shoot where the action is. Would this be better in a vertical format perhaps ??

I toned the background down as much as I could while keeping the feel for the scene as shot.

I love the bird interactions! The cormorant looking at the osprey adds so much other the image. It allows me to anthropomorphize all sorts of funny ideas about the scene. I am not a great technical photographer, so feel free to ignore my thoughts, but I do think vertical image could look cool as it would eliminate some of the more empty frame on the left. Amazing shot!

Going with a tighter, vertical crop will work perfectly for this shot. All the space on the left does not really add anything of importance to the comp. The poor cormorant is wondering how it missed out on a catch like this one. The whites on the osprey are exposed perfectly, and both subjects should be sharp enough to survive a generous crop. Well done…Jim

Another great Osprey action shot showing some interesting interaction Andrew. I think that the work on the background has worked well, but I keep seeing a number 7 lurking there!

The Cormorant is the special feature in the shot so why not try a tighter frame to emphasise this?

Do you have any extra space at the bottom of the frame to show a little more of the reflection.

Great shot. The cormorant adds an additional element. I agree that a crop on the left will improve a good picture.

Here is a vertical view. I agree with the suggestions. I like it better like this. Once again thanks for the help.

HI Andrew

You did a great job of taking the shot that Mother Nature gave you. Nice work.

Peter

Another great Osprey image, Andrew. I envy your opportunities with these birds, and you took great advantage of it.

Thanks again Dennis.
