Z8, Nikon 180-600mm & 1.3ext, f13, -.7EV, 1/1600, ISO 4500 and cropped by 20 % in DXO PhotoLab 8. I used a auto mask on the winging to lower the whites.

Very cool image of this egret, Peter. I might crop a touch off the right side and maybe the bottom to decenter the bird a bit more. You might also look at subduing the clump of specular highlights under the center of the bird as it’s a bit of an eye magnet.

I’m curious-what was the colorless background here?

Nailed it , Peter. Excellent detail and I like the wing position, and that you caught it before it had passed you. Whites look very good and the yellow in the face and feet pop. I could see a bit more room in front for the egret to fly into.
