Zion is a majestic and awe inspiring place. This photo does a great job of reflecting that. Well done. PS, it doesn’t need a better sky…it is great as is.

I like how you use the darker, closer side walls to isolate the lighter central peak in the distance. The sky looks fine to me.

Thank you! It is truly incredible there

Thank you! This type of photo usually feels claustrophobic to me, but with the walls expanding outward and the lighter background, it feels to me as though the walls are opening up to a grand reveal

Wonderful and dramatic rendition of what makes Zion so unique. Those tall colorful canyon walls. The light on the far rock face is stellar and the relatively dark walls it’s peaking through make it stand out all the more. Your chosen composition is unique and superb. The colors look to be quite natural to my eye and the processing looks great. I can’t even tell that this has been processed. I love the pine tree at the tip of the cliff on the right rock face. I don’t see anything wrong with the sky. It’s quite nice and doesn’t interfere with the rest of the scene. I think dramatic clouds would take away some of the impact of this scene. This image makes me want to head to Zion and hike. Thanks for sharing this Matthew.

Hi Matthew,
IMO this image is outstanding and it is definitely interesting. I find the light to be magical as it illuminates those rock walls. I am also enjoying the sky as it compliments the rest of the scene beautifully. I think a dramatic sky would compete with the other elements here. I particularly like that lone pine along the edge of the right canyon wall. I could see the greens dialed back just a touch, but that is more a personal preference rather than a critique. Beautifully done! Did you happen to hike Angel’s Landing? I have watched a few videos and it looks pretty scary.

I think that this looks great – the sky included. You choosing to shoot this bold, in your face composition was a good one because this image is unlike all others I’ve seen from Zion. Well seen and nicely done!

Thank you, Tom! When I go to popular destinations, I always try to look for new perspectives. There’s the more “obvious” photos to take, such as at the top of Angel’s Landing, or at Yosemite’s tunnel view, but there are always new perspectives to be found! And even if you’re taking a photo in the same exact spot someone else has taken, there are always new and unique ways of experiencing that landscape from the same vantage point.

Thank you, Ed! You might be right about the greens, but I do enjoy the way they contrast the sand stone. I’ve hiked Angel’s Landing twice so far! It’s a beautiful hike, highly recommend

I appreciate your kind words, @David_Haynes ! After your feedback and others, I think you’re right about the clouds. Sometimes more dramatic isn’t always better. I will keep that in mind for the future! Zion is gorgeous and has a lot to offer. I need to make another visit sometime soon
