Ian, the brightly lit cliff and shore sure stands out against the dark clouds and distant shore. The subtle rainbow is a great addition. What a place to have a house!!!
The subtle rainbow, blue tint of the sea, the mountains in the back, the shore and the cliff. Captures the majestic nature . I would have loved to see more of the sea and the mountains on the left in person
Always a pleasure to view images from your part of the world.
Nothing better than stormy light. You’re captured this beautifully. As others have mentioned, the rainbow is a lovely bonus. The light is of course beautiful on the central cliff - with the added warm light on the far shore.
I can’t compain too much about this, but kinda wishing the house was a bit more visible - although clearly the image is not about the house - other than to say that whomever lives there I’m guessing is quite peaceful!
This is terrific, Ian. There’s a lot more to see than we usually find in one photograph. The composition is pleasantly eccentric so it doesn’t look formulaic. The contrast between the warmth on the right and the cooler colors on the left is striking. The rainbow’s a lagnappe. I think the house and the wall are exactly where they should be.
Excellent composition and light. I love how everything points to the BG sunlit mountain, including the rainbow. The pano format works great. Not knowing what else was there, I can’t imagine including anything else would improve the image in any way.
I’m amazed that house doesn’t get battered by the surf! Is this a protected inlet or similar?
I agree with @Don_Peters that there’s a lot going on here (storm, sunlight, rainbow, tree, etc.), but it all comes together nicely. Must have been something to experience in person.
That rocky beach at Elgol is surprisingly steep. I have never seen the tide go higher than the honey coloured cliffs and I believe that wee house is a holiday rental. I am glad it doesn’t bother too many folk that I included it in the frame. I felt it was a welcome addition to the picture and serves to add a little bit to the isolated feel to this wonderful place.
Beautiful picture with nice color spread from light blue to light yellows.
I like the kind of symmetry of the storm on the left and the peace on the right. the dark sky, rough mountain, and see on the left side shows a darker and stormy dark blue environment that is unwelcome and then on the opposite on the right side there is the light blue sky with a nice house and the beach and yellow warm colors which is naturally bring peace and quite atmosphere. I really love that contrast.
The rainbow brings a sense of hope and peace into the darkness of the left side.
I would may be accentuate a bit more this contrast by darkening the left side (while keeping the rainbow as clear as possible) to echo the right side well exposed beach area.
In my opinion that what makes this photo unique and memorable, that contrast, that battle between the dark and light.
Great photo ! thank you for sharing.
