The next perplexed Nuthatch

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

New staging perch, requiring calculation of a new final approach path to the feeder.

Specific Feedback

All comments welcome! I’m a little bothered by the ruff of brown feathers on the left leg that don’t show on the right, but that’s the way it was and I don’t see a good fix.

Technical Details

Canon R5, 100-500 + 1.4X at 631mm, ISO 1600, f/13, 1/250 sec, sturdy tripod, foggy/cloudy morning. Minimal tonal tweaks in LR, Topaz denoise, cropped from the sides, a stray BG branch pruned out in LL corner.

Always keep them guessing!
Your usual fine detail, with a great pose, bright eye, and cool new perch.
Not a nit from me…

And another sweet image, Diane. Their complete disregard for gravity is utterly delightful.

Fine pose and detail with interesting texture in the perch.

Hi Diane
The eye contact, tells the story. (Some times my world, just seem up-side down). As always, the shot is nicely framed with good detail.

Another great nuthatch image Diane. I notice your BG is a little greener that it has been with previous images, but still so nice a smooth.

Thanks, @SandyR-B, @Dennis_Plank, @Allen_Brooks, @peter and @Ed_Williams! I’m having too much fun with these guys! Ed, this perch is higher than some of the earlier ones so the BG is the tree seen in some earlier images. It’s starting to lose its lovely green color in what passes for autumn out here. The very plain tan BG in other images is a field of mowed brown summer grass. I much prefer the mottled texture of the tree.

Lovely catch Diane and a great pose. Love seeing the underside details so finely. BG looks good to me and the brown feathers on the one leg don’t bother me. Fine work.

Thanks, @Allen_Sparks! I’m having fun with these guys, and seeing a few more of them than 2-3 months ago – maybe word got out that there is suet here?
