Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There are many wild azaleas blooming on our local hills in Korea right now. These, and the sun, were “in my face” yesterday evening so I made a quick stack, focusing manually. Their scent was a delicious bonus.

Specific Feedback

Cropped in close to keep bits and pieces out of the frame. The flowers may look over the top, but they appeared pretty much like this at the time.

Technical Details

D500 + 105mm 1/800 f5.6 ISO 500 6 shots stacked in Zerene.

Selected flowers in PS for tonal adjustments and toned down bits in BG. Cropped in close.

Nice, Mike. I like the triple bloom array and the colors are gorgeous. Some of the brightest areas seem to be blown out on my screen-don’t know if you can tame them without looking like gray blobs. Maybe some very careful low opacity cloning from a part that didn’t catch the sun?

Mike: We have many azaleas in our garden and they routinely confound my efforts at a good image. This isolated group looks pretty good with the backlighting. I’ve actually shot these HDR on occasion to tame the light. You might experiment with that if a similar opportunity presents. >=))>
