Description

On my last evening at Harris Beach I flew the drone out beyond the sea stacks to catch the sunset light on their west side. From this vantage point I could see the weathering from millennia of surf attacking the unyielding rock. This was a pretty large stack so there was also a lot of grass growing on the top which, considering the fierceness of the storms that can lash this area, is pretty impressive as well. >=))>

Specific Feedback

I added a bit of canvas on the bottom to give a bit more sea. Enough, too much, not enough, just right?

Hi Bill,
For my tastes the extra canvas at the bottom looks just fine. I also like the different bands of color in this scene as well; particularly that of the water. My only suggestion would be a little crop from the top as those two upper corners look to be a little soft and those diagonals seem to disrupt the flow of image; at least for me. I too am amazed that plant life can eek out an existence on top of those sea stacks. Very nicely done.

Bill, another wonderful birds eye view with the drone here. The water addition is excellent. I just was typing in about a crop from the top when I saw @Ed_Lowe comment with the same thoughts. I think cropping down to eliminate the top upper corner diagonals makes for a cleaner image… :cowboy_hat_face:

Really nice, Bill. I love the kind of drone shots. I have a DJI MiniPro, and it’s not much, and I’m not very good with being patient and finding comps, but I’m still planning to play around with it next time I’m at the coast.

AS for this image, I really like the combination of blue sea and warm rock. Whatever you added at the bottom, it looks great and really natural. It also has a gradual increase in turbulence from bottom to the shore, and that is very pleasing to my eye.

I agree with the others that a slight crop down from the top simplifies the composition and keeps my eyes where the heart of the beauty and action lie.

Lovely any way you look at it.

Bill, for me, the three large bands of color/texture make the scene and the fact that they’re pretty even size wise gives a nice balance. I also like the context shift from the crashing sea to the rugged surface to the green growth.

Such pleasing rhythm to this one, Bill. Like the waves, it flows and crashes in a logical way. If cropping the corners doesn’t work, you could consider dropping the shadows there and adding a slight darkening to the opposite corners as a sort of vignette effect. Could add some balance. As a matter of fact, I think the shadows could be lowered overall to better highlight the texture and contour of the rock itself, especiallyt hat little valley. Super composition.

Very nice Bill! I love all the texture in the image, the three main stripes of colour and how the image transitions from warm at the top to cool at the bottom. Personally, the triangles in the two top corners don’t bother me because to me they add interest to the image.
