Peter: I like both, but the upper shaded image moreso because of the interaction with the crab. The detail in the feathers is excellent. Curious to know if the heron did catch the crab.

Hi Peter, we do get a more illuminated view of the heron in the second image but as Richard states the interaction with the crab in the first photo makes that a special capture too. Love seeing the extended crab claw in the first image.

Yes, better light!
Crab vs heron (#1) gets my vote too!
Nice work!

Hi Richard, Allen & Sandy
Thank you for the comments. Yes Richard, Heron 1 crab 0.
Peter

Nice series between this and your last one Peter. The light makes a huge difference in the details of the feathers. I too like the heron vs. crab contest in the first image. It reminds me of the cartoon of the frog squeezing the heron’s neck as the heron is trying to eat it. . . https://www.google.com/imgres?q=cartoon%20frog%20squeezing%20heron’s%20neck&imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Flookaside.fbsbx.com%2Flookaside%2Fcrawler%2Fmedia%2F%3Fmedia_id%3D100064466721119&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FDont.Ever.Give.Up.or.Never.Give.Up%2F&docid=cAYWECUqq8np9M&tbnid=WEsjKMB0Cfaz4M&vet=12ahUKEwiOvt7BzPKHAxWULEQIHSYGNxYQM3oECHUQAA..i&w=400&h=400&hcb=2&ved=2ahUKEwiOvt7BzPKHAxWULEQIHSYGNxYQM3oECHUQAA

Very nice, Peter. The difference in the looks of the mud flats is astounding and the heron stands out much better from the background. Both of these are very nice images and ones we don’t see often as these birds truly are night hunters most of the time.

Hi Ed & Dennis
Thank you for your comments. I really enjoyed photographing the Night-Heron, for me this was the first time, to a one in Conn.
Peter

Both nice, crisp shots of the heron. The pose and action with the crab makes the first shot.

Hi Allen
Thank you for the comment.
