Wood duck and ducklings (remaining three)

Reworked for water clean up:

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Saw the remaining wood duck ducklings on Thursday morning. I also added in a green heron take off shot that wasn’t a part of the skirmish series.

Specific Feedback

The adult wood duck and last duckling are giving parallel looks for us so I think this is okay even though the other ducklings are slightly turned away. Looks like I could do a little bit of additional clean up in the water. Anything else?
EDIT: I added a version up top for water clean up.

I plan on going back to the pond this morning. Hoping for kingfishers.

Once again an excellent pair of photos with some nice warm sunlight. The cleaned up version of the ducks is definitely an improvement. Love the sense of family and movement there. The wakes and ripples are a nice addition since the color is a little different. Great patience waiting for the heron to take off. Do you use/have pre-burst capture on that camera? I find it invaluable for this kind of thing since my reflexes aren’t superhuman.

Hi @Kris_Smith the R7 has a pre-capture function but I’ve never used it. Would be a good thing to try out.

Another very good images, Allen. I like the wood ducks on the nice calm water-a very peaceful scene. The Green Heron take-off is excellent with great wing position.

very nice image especially with the water. Like both shots. Good work

I’ve used it here and there for insects and birds. It’s best to do it when you have a comfortable position or a tripod since you don’t know how long the wait will be. To have a second or so of images in the buffer before hitting the shutter can result in some really crazy poses and wing positions. Use sparingly though or you will fill your memory card with useless photos of the same bird, sitting the same way in hundreds of shots! Not that I know from experience or anything.
