The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I sometimes feel like I haven’t been able to get out much over the course of the year, but then in review I realize it adds up. Most of these I have posted on NPN before, but I included a couple I haven’t yet.
These are in the order that I took them, with the exception of the first. I put that one at the top because it was such an amazing experience to be there.
John, these are truly stunning images overall. Usually I can pick an immediate favorite, but these are all super. The Phlox Capacitor is a knock out image. The dark backdrop allows the plant(s) to go 3-D for me… EDIT: on a revisit I think I had the name wrong on the floral group with the black rock is actually “Tucked Away” maybe?
These are all excellent, and as others have said, so diverse. It’s hard to pick a favorite, it, if I had to, I’d pick Zen Garden as an image, and Phlox Capacitor for its name.
John, these are all great and very diverse. In Surprise Wonder, the colors seem otherworldly, even as I recognize Mt Adams. The wave break in White Noise is awesome and it stands out well against the stormy sky. Frozen Medusa is my kind of intimate look at details and textures. Yes, Phlox Capacitor gets extra kudos for it’s title and the way the foreground flowers stand out.
John: A spectacular collection. White Noise is my favorite because once one has experienced Shore Acres in a storm it leaves an indelible mark on the mind and soul. I also appreciate your creativity with your titles which speaks to how the scenes resonate with you. Most excellent in every way. >=))>
Hi John,
All of your favorites for the year 2024 are gorgeous, but I am blown away by #'s one, two and eight! I find Surprise Wonder calming and serene while White Noise is just the opposite with the raw power of nature on full display and The Citadel is dripping with mood and has this primordial feel to it! Great work.
That made me laugh out loud too I originally posted that in Nightscape & Astro, so it snuck by. It’s definitely a cliched view of Hood, but the aurora made it a special experience to be there.
John,
These are wonderful photos. I too live in the Pacific Northwest and you inspire me to get out more. Do you go on these outings alone or as part of a photography group or club (I’m looking for a photo group to join). Keep up the good work.
They are a mix, about 50:50, of going alone or with others. Most commonly I go photographing with @Steve_Kennedy. He lives north of you on Camino. I’ve also been out a few times with @James_Lorentson. He lives near me in Camus, and does professional guiding and instruction. (He also has a great blog on Youtube.) Most of the winter images were taken backpacking with a couple of non-photographer friends.
Back in the old days of NPN 1, we used to get together as an NPN group once or twice a year here in the Northwest. It would be great to do that again!
John,
Thanks for the reply. I went to James Lorentson’s page and found a YouTube video he did a while back on Seattle Meet-up Groups for photographers. Thanks for the tip.
Jim
Great collection of images here John. Looks like you had a pretty good year out there. I particularly love the crashing wave image in monochrome. I’ve been looking to get over there sometime next year to see those waves myself.
I love the first image. It drew me in, but the rest were fabulous too. I remember seeing the snow & trees one before, even though I haven’t been on here as much as I had hoped this year. It looks like you had some lovely experiences. Thanks for sharing these!
