I love the seasonal pulse of wildlife opportunities near my home in Montana.
Here are my four favorites from the seasons.
Spring and waterfowl. This May I was lucky to position myself close to a feeding Harlequin drake. I was at the tail of a pool and the drake dove for 20 minutes feeding just upstream of my position.
Bison and winter go together. I take the majority of my bison photos from a cold vehicle.
Summer and alpine. I love the wildflowers, the scenic views, the cool temperatures and rocky mountain goats. The goat kid in the photo was directly below me sitting on a cliff.
Autumn and the rut. I was fortunate to make over 40 trips for bighorn sheep in 2025, and this was my favorite photo. A behavior called “huddling” which is before the rut in October.

This was my second year enjoying wildlife photography. I use a Canon R5.
I used a 70-200mm F2.8 for the bison photo and a 200-800mm F9 lens for the other photos.
David: Welcome to NPN and thanks for showing some of your fine work. These are all pretty marvelous and I especially like the Bighorns. You should post more of your work going forward in Wildlife where I’m sure it will be well received. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more in 2026. >=))>
Welcome to NPN, Dave. You have some incredible images in this group. Like Bill, I really love the Bighorn huddle. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of your work and getting your comments on other people’s efforts.
Hi and welcome to NPN, Dave. Excellent collection and I too am drawn to the intensity of the Bighorn Huddle. The leaping kid though, just puts a smile on my face. Hope to see more of your work and overall participation in 2026. Montana sure is a terrific place.
Hi David,
First off I too would like to welcome you to NPN! These are all amazing, especially the bison and rams. I hope to see more of your work as well as your participation on commenting on other photographer’s work.
