Image Description

The “selection” triage process was much harder than I had anticipated. [Fortunately, multiple flips of the coin solved this problem.]

Franz: Neat idea to present all of these 2:1 comps. I’m hard pressed to pick #1 or #6 as favorites as I like long exposure surf shots. Can’t say that I don’t like any of them but #3 and #7 don’t have as compelling subject impact for me although both are fine images. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more of your work in 2026.>=))>

A nice collection, Franz. My favs are #1 and 5. The slight ICM shot of surf break looks familiar and is a beautiful image,. The soft colors and streaky textures hold my attention. The #5 Landscape image is wonderful , the lake and sky and forest background play so well with the impressive foreground tree subjects, What species of tree?

Favorite: No 1 (the falls)- it really made me examine it closely; I love the striking contrasts in this one.
Least Favorite: No 7 (rocks and green bush) - it doesn’t make as strong a statement as the others to me.

No favourites…or all favorites, for different reasons. A great collection of images!

Franz,

A nice collection. Your last photo inspired me to make this one, but I think yours worked out much better.

Mike;

The #4 image is of Latourell Falls on the Oregon side of the Columbia River gorge. Some of my images have titles. This one is titled “I dare you to get any closer!”. It’s becoming one of my all-time favorites.

I’m not an expert on plants, but according to Goggle, the light green lichens on the right side are either golden cobblestone lichen (Pleopsidium flavum), or potentially wolf lichen (Letharia vulpina).

Cheers,
Franz

Stephen;

I’m not sure what kind of trees those are in image #5. They’re located on the hillside due west of Red Lake on highway 88 that crosses over the Sierra Nevada mountains south of Lake Tahoe. There’s a large pullout beside highway 88 just above this location, so it’s safe to exit the car - as well as not require any industrial strength hiking skills.

Google says they’re bristlecone pines (Pinus longaeva or Pinus balfouriana).

Cheers,
Franz

Bill;

One of the “triage” aspects of picking out the best ones for sharing on NPN surprised me. I had 15 images on the short list that needed to be trimmed down to less than 10. One of the criteria I toyed with was: “Should I zero in on images that resonate the most with me personally. Or should I zero in on images that I thought would garner the most likes?” I was surprised at how complex the internal dialog between these two poles were. [In the end, the former won out over the latter.]

Cheers,
Franz

I must be in a slow shutter surf mood today, Franz. I picked 3, 6, and 9 as my favorites without really thinking about it.

Nice set of images. #4 and #6 are my favorites, but it’s hard to choose. The closeup of the bark brings me right in. And the rocks and fog - stunning. I also love the ICM in 3. I too had to do some coin tossing!

It’s hard to pick a favorite, Franz, but 3, 4, 5, and 6 are more interesting to me. That said, #9 would make a great screensaver or desktop background. Very peaceful and pleasing colors.

A great set of images! My favourite is No. 6, I like a lot the contrast between the smooth water and the jagged cliffs. The one I like the least is No. 2, to me personally the subject is not that engaging.

I always enjoy seeing what each of us value at the year’s end, and this is a great collection Franz. #3 has a sensual aspect to it that I really enjoy, so that is my favorite. Merry Christmas!
