American Robin juvenile

Critique Style Requested: Standard

Description

I shot this little guy almost a month ago – another bird in an actual tree. It was so far away that it’s a huge crop – 10% of the full frame – and the IQ isn’t great so I hadn’t bothered to post it, but I haven’t seen it or any adults since.

Specific Feedback

All comments welcome! I cleaned up some branches and wonder if I should try to get rid of the one through its head. It could be tricky where it intersects the fine feathers but this AI stuff is getting scary good. The color balance is probably off, too – I suspect it should be more brown than gray.

Technical Details

Very minor tweaks in LR, into PS for denoise and BG cleanup. Huge crop, to 10% of the full frame.

Hi Diane, the details held up fairly well given the crop even though I can see the effects of it in large size. Love the backwards glance with the juvenile plumage in back. Interesting perch that adds interest as well. No telling how well the branch in back could be removed but as you said the current tools are amazing.

You sure were lucky with the youngsters this spring, Diane. Another fine image of a juvenile. I like the hint of the spotted plumage on the upper back and the head turn is wonderful.

Thanks, @Allen_Sparks and @Dennis_Plank! This was a fun find, with only a few seconds to capture it.
