The Juvie Robin is growing up

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I spent a while in the bird blind this morning but didn’t get anything more than routine. I was just about to head back to the house when I saw the young Robin again. I slowly stepped out of the blind and handheld for a few shots as it wandered away. I see many in the spring but they have thinned out by now. It’s been fun watching it grow up – all of a week or two ago I have some shots of a very awkward-looking teenager.

The usual – tonal tweaks in LR (not much in the shaded light), NR in PS, minor cloning of distracting grass pieces. Cropped to about 60% of the original pixels.

Nice, Diane. It looks like you managed a nice low point of view and I like the slightly scruffy appearance. You should be picking up some of the northern ones heading further south by now.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank! It looks like I was low but I was standing – maybe crouched a bit to try to hide so I wouldn’t spook it. The telephoto and crop did make it look low.

Robins make excellent subjects; too bad they are so common. I like how the texture of the background is somewhat similar to the robin’s chest-sort of a scalloped look.

HI Diane, this is a fine image and a great look at this stage of a young robin’s development. Love the setting too with the foreground grass matching much of the oof BG. Bird stands out well. Nicely done.

Thanks, @Allen_Brooks and @Allen_Sparks! I need to put up a sprinkler and plant some earthworms.
