Another Iris (+revised)

Revised Version

Revision 1 (latest)

What changed: I liked Bill Fach’s idea of giving the BG some color and messed with warm analogous tinting as he did, and it did look good, but settled on complementary cool.

Description

The chance to photograph this Iris was a happy coincidence, since I just photographed (or maybe imaged is a better term) the Iris Nebula. I only have a few different Iris and by now the survivors are mostly feral, but I have always liked this one and I don’t think I have managed to photograph it before. It has been very dry and windy and I had to bring it indoors to stand a chance with it, so was able to do a focus stack.

Minor tonal tweaks in LR; about 15 frames into Zerene for a stack then minor cloning. A small crop from the top.

Great image! I really enjoy the soft feeling to the petal and then when I zoom in the stamen are very sharp and in focus. It is almost like a painting!

Diane: Your work with iris is always enticing and this is no exception. I love the detail in the beard and the petals. Really good work on the stack. My only suggestion would be to add just a hint of tint to the neutral BG. I played around with a simple color range mask just for fun. Back to you. >=))>

Thanks, @JayD and @Bill_Fach ! Bill, interesting idea – I’ll play with that and maybe put up a RP.

Diane, the colors here are very inviting and I’m enjoying how you’ve focused on the tongue and the subtle softness of the down hanging petal. That make for a dreamy feeling.

Thanks @Mark_Seaver ! And @Bill_Fach I’m just putting up a revision.

The original poster added a revised version of their image.

Diane: Great use of the new feature and I really like what you did with the BG. Did you just adjust temperature or play with tint? I just used the tint but I like how yours turned out better. >=))>

Thanks, @Bill_Fach ! I got lazy and just selected the BG and tweaked the Color Balance sliders.

Oooh I like the revision with the contrasting color. Great idea, Bill, and great execution Diane. Irises should bloom here in a month or so.
