Blizzard Conditions + Flipped version

Flipped per @Dennis_Plank suggestion

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Blizzards start with snow flurries and then progress to full fury. In our part of Texas the closest we get to a blizzard is the explosion of snowdrops we get early every Spring. These little guys (about the size of a dime) seem to be impervious to our freezes. >=))>

Specific Feedback

I did not stack the second image; too windy, but I thought the slightly OOF areas were sufficiently subtle that I could get away with it. I also like the light on the second image. Your thoughts?

Technical Details

Sony A7rIII, Sony FE 70-200 f2.8 GM-II
Image 1: ISO 400, 1/250 @ f8, 2xTC 400mm 13 shot stack in Helicon Focus
Image 2: ISO 400, 1/60 @ f22, 137mm

The first image is superb, Bill. i really like the idea of letting the stem go slowly out of focus-not sure how you did it, though f/8 might have been enough to do it all by itself.

The second is excellent and it works fine without a stack except I think it would have more energy for my occidental mind if it were flipped horizontally.

Needless to say, I like it flipped, Bill!

These are so lovely and fresh looking! I’ve never seen them IRL so it’s a treat for me. Reminds me a of project I did when I lived in NH and we had Lily of the Valley so I photographed them through their life stages. It was fun. Flipped right to left works for my brain as well.

Hi Bill,
I am loving the intimacy of the first image and the DOF looks perfect IMO. The soft subdued light is also perfect for showcasing these little guys. When I first saw the thumbnail I thought these were lilies of the valley. FWIW I like the flipped second version as well. After seeing these I am ready for my lilies of the valley to make an appearance. Very nicely done.

Bill, the first look is excellent, showing off the shapes and colors beautifully. The second (and the flipped versions) do a fine job of showing these little flowers off in context. I’m agnostic about the flip, since I believe that the colors, shapes and brightness, etc. control where our eyes roam through a frame. I do like how the brighter leaves in the corner balance the flowers, especially in the unflipped version. Around here, these have escaped the gardens and are taking over wildflower areas.

These are pretty, Bill. I especially love the cropped one. Very nice.

Seen them only now! So nice. Splendid focus work. I find them so “plenty”, if this is meaning anything. Beautiful.
