Allen: Awesome detail in the eye facets. I like your DOF management to get the entire face sharp. Even at f32 the DOF is crazy shallow at this distance and mag. Really well done. >=))>

Allen, your dragonflies get better and better - interesting to see other body parts so it’s not “disembodied”. Did you use a tripod?

Thanks @Bill_Fach @Mike_Friel

Mike, this is handheld. The flash was at 1/8 power which to my understanding has a 1/8000s flash duration.

Allen, the details in the face and eyes are awesome! Yes, some Blue Dashers can be quite approachable. At my woodland (shady) pond, yesterday afternoon was the first time that a male Blue Dasher came a stayed. I’ve seen brief visits for two weeks and I saw a female yesterday, so I’m looking forward to what happens next…

Allen, this is superb! Wonderful details in those eyes. Nicely done.

Incredible detail!! Fantastic image!

Beautiful, Allen. I like this as posted, but I could also see a version taking everything but the face and eyes black and maybe cropped to a square. If the people who do halloween masks could duplicate that face, I’ll bet it would be a real winner!

Incredible!! A wonderful capture! I could see burning down the abdomen but otherwise I think it’s fantastic!
