Bob bob bobbin' along

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

One of my longest-held myths was shattered the other day in Raleigh when I checked out the color of this bird. It was certainly bobbin’ along in the grass though.

Hi Mike
Love the low angle and framing, but I think the Neat Image and Smart Sharpen, went a little overboard.
Peter

Very nice low angle, on this Robin, Mike. The people who came up with color names for birds seem to have had a very limited vocabulary in some instances, but then “The rufous, rufous Robin…”, just doesn’t work in a song. This is pretty accurate color for a robin and it hasn’t gotten rid of all it’s winter fringes and gone into full breeding plumage yet. I do see a bit of oversharpening in the plumage. A very nice pose and eye contact.

Nice catch Mike. Colors and setting look natural for a robin here. Maybe just a tad oversharpened but not by much to my eye. Well done.

@Dennis_Plank @Sandy_Richards-Brown @Peter_Morrissey @Allen_Sparks - Thanks for your critiques. Will review noise and sharpening of this and others when I get back to base.

The FG grass and BG sunlit color is very nice, but the Robin’s color is primarily affected by being in the shade. I think it’s worth trying to warm the bird a bit so the back feathers are a bit warmer, which would warm the breast a bit. Rufous is a good description of the color. Here is a very clumsy correction.
