Description

Tall Grass Prarie Preserve, Strong City, Kansas
a little 1/2 inch buglet on a waist-high twig, so I was able to get down low enough to get some clear sky BG.
I liked the similarly-coloured twig it chose - very tough for me to find, and - hopefully - for the hungry birds foraging to feed their babies.

A fascinating bug, Sandy. I just think this would be even better if you’d done a stack to get all-round focus. Or else, a much higher f number. Color, comp and BG all excellent…but it does need sharper focus when viewed large.

Sandy: What an interesting critter. Nice work to get this close with a 90mm. Most excellent.>=))>

@Mike_Friel
Well, you’re right. I’m posting an earlier hopper that is sharper. I don’t like the perch or BG much, but the hopper is better.

Sandy, I prefer the first post, although the brightness of the hopper seems a bit much. The greens in V2 work very well against the blue sky. Like Mike, I do wish for a bit more dof, in particular I wish the front of the face were sharp.

Sandy, this is an interesting bug. I like the second image the best I think. Nice details in the bug, and he is on a nice diagonal perch. Great find and capture.

Sandy: The second version is much more interesting to me. Like @Mark_Seaver the hopper seems a little bright. Subduing that about 1/3-1/2 stop would suit me better. Nice find and a good capture. >=))>

Hi Sandy, for my taste I like the top post best with the sharper bug contrasting well with the dark background. Interesting subject. Well seen and taken on both images.

I think I’ll go with the first one, Sandy. I like the darker background and then the light on the insect. Also like how the lone leaf seems to balance the image.
