As long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by colorful river stones whose textured surfaces fit comfortably in the palm of my hands. One of my favorites is this specimen that I found along the middle fork of the American River at the end of the dry season, when much of the river channel was not underwater.

I experimented with several different kinds of motion effects . This is one of my favorite results. What do you think?
Pertinent Technical Details
The stone was placed on a sheet of colored paper in the shade (no harsh direct sunlight shadows). A white reflector was also used to further soften the shadow. Finished with a few ACR tonal and color mixer tweaks.
Exposure Settings: 1/15 sec at f/14, ISO 64, 70 mm.
I see BOTH! First impression and wider view definitely gave me the impression of a planet, with weather patterns, oceans and deserts. Then, upon further view, I too could see the head of hair from above, complete with a part down the middle, very nicely styled and in the modern cultural flare of colored hair!
This is actually inspiring to try some objects in this fashion! Thanks for that. I too love, and collect rocks and shells from various places I’ve visited
Very cool, @franz . I am still a little baffled by how you did this: is it ICM, or a filter of some sort, or a zoom exposure? I can imagine a whole series of these, paired, just like you present it here. I would go to a gallery to see that!
