Description

My second day on my west coast trip found me in Northern California going through the Redwoods. Late in the day I came into the Avenue of the Giants from the north. At the entrance to the avenue there was a pullout with a map station. I decided to walk back into the trees a little way and came across this little scene, completely unaltered. I thought it was interesting to note the huge big leaf maple leaf laying on the redwood droppings. One would assume that the maple was the big tree while the redwoods would have to be smaller. Au contraire! The maples were little bigger than large bushes while the redwoods were The Redwoods. >=))>

Specific Feedback

I have other frames where the leaf takes up more of the frame but liked this slightly wider view. What do you think of the proportion?

Bill, the Maple leaf stand out well amongst the fallen redwood leaves. This is a peaceful, pleasant fall scene. I have on occasion seen leaves lower down in the forest that were much bigger than similar leaves higher up…wonder if they’re bigger to catch more of the limited sunshine??

The proportions of this scene look good to me, Bill. I like the mood here, though you might want to bring down the highlights in the maple leaf a bit as the brighter sections are starting to lose texture detail on my monitor. What really gets me is how tiny the Redwood cones are.

Well seen and captured, Bill. The other contrast that I see are the “dead” leaves of the Redwoods, where the Maple looks pretty green and “alive”. Nicely done.

Bill, this is a really nice find. I like the framing and the contrast between the dark redwood needles and the yellow vine maple leaf.
Well-seen!
