The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
These Jumping Spiders were out in my backyard flower garden today. First I have seen of them this year. I ran in and got my little travel camera to see how it would do shooting macro. I got the Canon SX-70 recently for my Amtrak trip I am taking to NM this summer. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to handle my luggage and camera equipment traveling by myself.
Specific Feedback
Just hadn’t had any macro-opportunities lately so though I would post these that I took today. Anything you see that might help. The SX-70 certainly doesn’t compare with my R5 or even my 5D Mark IV but it sure is light.
Technical Details
Taken HH manual settings 1/500 f7.1 - f8, auto ISO. I used the pop up flash on some of the shots.

Looks like that little camera worked pretty nicely, Shirley. Detail is excellent and image quality looks quite good. If you want to be prepared for macro subjects on the trip, you might look for a flash diffuser or jury rig one that you can add to the pop-up flash.
LOVE jumpers! You got some pretty good detail from that camera, and nice poses from the critter. #2 has the best view of those EYES, so is my favorite. Really nice work!
Shirley: Wow, hard for me to choose, especially among the three with the spotlighting. Great finds and it looks like your purchase of the SX-70 has paid off already. Top notch x 4! >=))>
Shirley, your travel camera works quite well. (As I always tell a beginning photoworkshop, “It not the equipment that makes the photo, it’s the brain behind the equipment.”) I really like #2 with the spider looking at us, standing in the maze of leaves (kind of like a multi freeway interchange for spiders… )
You may already be in NM by now but I just wanted to say “Best of Luck” to you on your trip!
The travel camera you chose looks like it will serve you well, judging by the macro shots you posted here. Of course, the seasoned pro behind the camera is the most important part.
Thank you, Merv. No, I haven’t left yet. I will be in NM early August. I haven’t had any time to mess with that little camera lately. Hopefully it will do well and I won’t be wishing I had all of my good equipment. I was pleased with these shots with it. I am hoping it will do well with landscape. I’m not expecting it to be much with wildlife, but I don’t plan to be going out shooting much of that. If something poses I will try to get a shot, but mainly just enjoy family and see the sites. Again thanks for stopping by and your kind comments.
