Kilgore Falls is located in Rocks SP, MD and at 17’ is the second highest vertical drop waterfall in MD. It had rained for a few days prior to my visit and I have to say that the water flow was the best that I had ever seen. Most people shoot from downstream or directly in front of the falls and I find that the rocks block some of the view; so I decided to climb up the rocks a little bit to gain some elevation and make the rocks a little less prominent. Gaining some elevation also helps give the viewer a better look at the surrounding woodland and the lovely spring greens.

I am relatively happy with the image, but if you notice anything please feel free to mention it. There is a little tannin in the water and I did mitigate it some. How does it look to everyone?

Ed, your mix of falls and spring trees looks great. I see spots where the tannins are showing, which is expected. You show well a number of the smaller steps on the way down and you’ve got enough rocks around the falls. My one visit had a local film crew set up, so I couldn’t cross the creek and could only get to the base on the other side of this view… As we left, their “star” stopped and asked if we were there to watch her being filmed
Ed, your effort on getting a higher perspective really paid off big time. This view is excellent. The volume of water flow is amazing. Additionally the depth to the scene, especially the larger version, into the upper tree area provides perfect DOF too…
The only thought for a review might be the cast? Might be just my monitor as I need to calibrate it again. Seems to lean greenish maybe?..no nits just thoughts.
You picked a really nice angle for this shoot Ed. I think green foliage really adds to most waterfall shots because there are mostly lots of rocks to be seen. Water looks fine, even with a little tannin, which is hard to avoid in most forests. Almost a complete rock frame around the falls and the lower ones serve to anchor the scene; happy to see the complete rock in the LR, instead of being cut off. I like the several “bridal veils” you’ve captured with the shutter speed. Overall, a well done image.
Ed: Great POV and a fine comp and capture. I like the texture and color in the water especially and the surrounding hillside BG. Good effort nicely rewarded. >=))>
Thanks so much everyone @Mark_Seaver, @Paul_Breitkreuz, @Jim_Lockhart and @Bill_Fach for your thoughts on this image.I am glad everyone enjoyed it. I know that I had a wonderful time while there as it was the best water flow I have seen over the years. @Mark_Seaver : That was certainly bad timing. I am surprised you were able to get that close. @Paul_Breitkreuz : Funny that you should mention that as I was on the fence about whether to move the green slider just a bit. I will revisit that.
Ed, I am happy with this image too. Excellent shot of the falls with effective looking flow. You also show the environs well . This is not a negative, but my eyes dance between the falls and the striking green foliage. Might you want to tweet the color of the green a bit to keep the viewer looking at the falls? Just a question. Nice image.
