I was headed up the Cascade Lake Highway in Oregon not expecting there would be much of a sunrise. All of the sudden the sky lit up. I managed to find a place to pull off the road with an opening in the trees that offered a view. It was cold and windy, but worth the discomfort to capture this majestic view.
Timing is everything with these kinds of shots, and yours was just right Chris. I agree with @Bill_Fach about the layering and color, plus that hint of fog in the valley between the foreground hills and the mountain in the background adds to the mood.
A lovely image with really good control of all the various tones. While the whole image is very nice, I think the sky is the star. The colors are beautiful, and there’s a surprising amount of interesting detail.
Definitely “purple mountain majesty”, Chris. The orange sky has me thinking that there was light smoke in the air, at least that’s what I see in sunrises in Montana. You’ve got fine layers in both the mountains and the sky with it’s light clouds.
