Mission Accomplished

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Last year I indulged myself with a tour of the Oregon coast and for the first time I had a drone with me. I started from Canon Beach and worked my way south, planning to shoot the lighthouses from the ocean side. Halfway into the trip I had a brain lock and managed to crash and lose the drone. :disappointed_relieved:Of course I pressed on but when I got to the Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor I really felt a lot of disappointment. So this year I went back, starting from the south and going north to Yachats and Newport. I’m a better and more cautious flyer now so I got to shoot the Natural Bridges from the ocean side. The light was fairly harsh but on occasion a stray cloud would lend a little variety and character to the scene. What a magical and inspiring place. >=))>

Specific Feedback

I continue to be impressed with the image quality of this little drone. This was a 12mp HDR composite but I got some singles with the 48mp setting that I’ve made some pretty good large prints from.

Very nice capture. I love the texture of it. I also love every inch of the Oregon coast. Great use of the drone. I’m thinking “wall hanger”.

On my To Do list is drone photography, so this is inspirational. (Although I winced reading about losing the drone; I’m not good at video games, so I suspect I’ll need a lot of practice before venturing into shots like this.) Congratulations on getting back there!

Having hung around this little area a bit myself, I love seeing the different perspective. It’s a wonderful section of stacks. I really like the wave lines you captured with them; they add to the flow to lead the eye out that top left.

On my monitor, the full-size image seems a bit crunchy; maybe just a tad less sharpening?

Bill, this “from the sky” view is awesome. I’m loving the transition across the spectra of greens and blues, set of well by the white water. I do think a bit of burning on the brightest bits (slightly right and below center) would be good as that section looks bit “choppy”.

John: You might consider the DJI Mini 4 Pro. It has omni-directional obstacle avoidance. The Mini 3 Pro does not have sideways obstacle avoidance and I misjudged my position and flew it into a tree. I have zero video game skills as well but the new drones are almost idiot proof.

Bill, I’ve been waiting for your drone images! The perspective here is excellent, from a view only a drone could provide. It’s an especially-beautiful stretch of our coast, and this is really wonderful.
I agree with John that perhaps a little less sharpening would work.
Inspiring image!

Beautiful scene, Bill. One we wouldn’t normally see, but the drone makes it possible.
