I haven’t posted for a while so decided to do so with an image that didn’t make the grade initially. This was the last image made of the day. I didn’t spend a lot of time searching but was happy after I saw it on the screen.

Specific Feedback

I believe it’s not tack sharp in some areas but I can’t find them now. Can you?

Depth of field is an issue when shooting this close. This rock is maybe 6 inches long.

Hi Igor,

This image is quite striking! The diagonal of the large rock juxtaposed with the smaller rocks as well as the background is wonderful. Were they like that when you found them? The colors and saturation are just right to my eye.

I’m fine with the sharpness, but you could tweak it using Topaz Sharpen ai, or Photoshop’s High Pass filter (which is one of my favorite way to sharpen edges, or more broadly).

Nice shot for end of the day!

Yes this rock is as I found it. I moved some of the leaves in past images but not the rocks. I actually don’t like to move things much. It’s not that I find it unethical. I’m never sure when I’ve done it right. I’m far better at composing by moving around stationary objects than moving stationary objects. Just years of habit.

Thank you.

Igor,

The only out of focus area I see in the whole frame is the ULC, but it does not detract from the image. On the whole the photo gives me a sense of vertigo, almost like the rock(s) are defying gravity. I think I get this sense because of the lighting, as it seems to be coming from below and my brain wants it to be coming from above. Not sure if that makes any sense at all.

The first thing I noticed was the juxtaposition of the angular rock in the middle of the frame and the rounded one right above it. I also love the colours as they seem to have an almost metallic glow. Like Youssef said, the OOF area in the ULC is there but on a whole it doesn’t really bother me.

Hi Igor,
Good to see your work here again. I’ve missed you. I like this a lot. The contrast in colors (oranges and greens) and shapes (angular and round) really make this one interesting. For what it’s worth, I felt that the green rock at the top was a little too dominant in the frame, so I played with a quickie crop of a screen shot. I also brightened the screen shot a tish as well. It is a screenshot, so who knows what that does to colors.

This may or may not be better, but I like to play and see where it takes me.

For some reason, I have occassional trouble downloading images, so can’t ascertain sharpness at this size. The only area that stands out is the ULC. I am amazed at your ability to make ordinary subjects that most would pass by, visually arresting. Colors are as usual, outstanding. At first glance I noticed the rounded rock and thought it visually clashed with the rest of the image, but now I think it’s an essential part of it.

Igor: Great vision here and I like that there is no obvious sense of scale. The dark color palette is handled so well and the slightly OOF area did not catch my eye until others pointed it out and even then for me it’s a non-factor. Very nicely crafted image. >=))>

Really nice composition Igor. I like the colored and white rocks against the darker stones in the background, ass well as the different texture of the rocks. The tones are great, not much I would change. In reference to your question about the OOF areas, it looks like the green rock in the ULC is OOF, other than that there isn’t much that jumped out at me that distracted my eye. Well seen!
