Description
Slattadale, Torridon, Scotland
Backlit Scots pine trees adorn a tiny island near Slattadale in Loch Maree on a brilliantly crisp winter morning with the sun just rising over the crest of a hill such that the frost glistened brilliantly on the foliage and island grasses. I was happy with what I got already but then the sun struck the ice water of the loch and a wraith like advection mist began to rise off the surface of the loch.

Superb image, Ian. The pano format really suits the composition. The light is magical and I like the effect of the ND filter. No critiques from me. Advection? Being on NPN makes me a smarter man. Had to use a dictionary to look that one up.
This is fantastic, Ian. The backlit trees have a tremendous luminosity, as does parts of the water. Composition is spot on and I enjoy the contrast of richly textured landscape against the smooth water. If it were mine I might experiment with every so slightly darkening the hill behind the trees to give the trees even more presence via contrast. Great work, as usual!
Hi @Ian_Cameron, A really lovely image from a not too ugly portion of the world. The light in Scotland’s mountains is superb and you have captured it really well. The B&W conversion is spot on. All in all brilliant work. So well done!
Ian: Just a superbly crafted image of a wonderful scene. Using the ND was a great decision. I love the conversion but would love to see the original color rendition as well. Terrific work.>=))>
If you look back through my images probably about twenty or so ago there is a very similar but not identical colour version. I like it very much in colour as well. However the colour version is cropped very tight to the end of the island whereas this one is taken a little earlier before the mist really started to swirl. Interested to hear which you prefer, colour or black and white.
