Sachem in Waterlily

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

August around here is Sachem season as the local brood hatches and large numbers from further south migrate north. I found this male deep in a water lily bloom. Since these blooms close up every night and this one was just opening for the new day, I wonder if this butterfly had spent the night inside the closed bloom avoiding the previous afternoon/evening thunderstorms… The view feels pugnacious to me and these little ones will fly up to investigate other insects as they fly past.

Specific Feedback

This is a partial stack (15 shots) to get the front petals and the front of the bf sharp, while using the limited dof to separate the bf from the stamen behind him.

Technical Details

R5, 180 mm macro, 1/30 s, f/11, iso 800, tripod. A 15 shot stack for a sharp foreground.

Vibrant colors are very nice and you produced a very unique comp. Sharpness is excellent where needed. I have no nits and like this one as presented…Jim

Mark: Great to catch this critter on such a nice perch. I see the pugnacious look too. Really nice call on the stack decisions as well. :+1: :+1:>=))>
