Description
This was taken at Mesquite Flat Dunes in Death Valley. Due to physical limitations, I was unable to hike more that along the edge of the dunes. However, by using my 100-500 telephoto lens I was able to isolate interesting sections. This image was taken in the early morning when the light was tinged with pink and the angle created shadows and brought out the shapes and textures carved by the wind.
Oh My! This is superb! Excellent job with the telephoto to compress the dunes and creating this beautiful dune abstract. The colors are simply gorgeous - and I can tell how they are picked up from the atmosphere around during the time of day you captured this.
Great inclusion for the weekly theme as well. No nits of suggestions, other than I can see this hanging big on a wall somewhere…
This is lovely!! Great use of telephoto and the pink and blue are a nice surprise! Only an animal can hike very far in those dunes. I’ve wondered if there are special snowshoes for sand dunes.
I love the early morning light in Death Valley at the dunes. All of the pinks and blues before dawn. Yummy. Wonderful layering and intersecting lines making for a great composition. I love the detail in the very bottom of the frame with all of the squiggly sand lines leading the eye. Nicely done.
I once knew an artist in Montreal who always gave his oil paintings of snow scenes a slightly pink hue. He said snow in the sun had a a pinkish look. I never saw it but he did and he made it work. You taken to the extreme in sand and it’s beautiful.
