Image Description

I love catching redbuds in that brief window when the flowers are just opening and the leaves are young and small. This one is from a couple of weeks ago.

A focus stack with very minor BG retouching. Cropped from both sides.

Diane: Oh this is fine! I love redbuds in this stage as well. We have a bunch of them in our garden and their appearance is always a herald of spring. Marvelous color palette in the leaves, buds and BG. The drops are icing on a really nice cake. Most excellent! >=))>

Very nice, Diane. Love evert thing about this image.

Beautiful, Diane. I love the depth of field you used for this. I am seeing what looks like some kind of processing artifact around the bud on the far right.

Thanks, @Bill_Fach, @Shirley_Freeman and @Dennis_Plank! Dennis, there is a larger-than-usual halo between that bud and the leaf in front of it. It was diffuse enough I decided to let it go, but it is a problematic area. The blush of lighter colors is due to another flower behind that dropped out when I chose a narrow subset of the frames to stack. Same thing with the hint of a leaf behind the bronze leaf. Maybe the attempted dreamy look doesn’t come across well.

And now I’m noticing the darker OOF leaf along the top edge… Maybe I’ll fiddle with it a little.

And I did – see above. Any better?

I like the change a lot, Diane, but now I noticed the black oof blob jusy above the branch that doesnt feel good in the middle of such a pleasant dream.

Diane, you’ve got a great mix of sharp and soft, where the background complements the subject beautifully. Both versions are completely acceptable, with the only way to notice your changes being via a side-by-side comparison.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank and @Mark_Seaver! That blob didn’t bother me until you mentioned it, but now it does! I removed it but left a trace of the darker area as it seemed to fit the variation in the BG. Also removed the in-focus darker stub. Posted above.

I think that did it, @Diane_Miller . An excellent image.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank! Nothing like another set of eyes!

Diane, I love the color combination in this image; so beautiful!

Thanks @beth_young! I get about a good week every year with this tree – already looking forward to next spring!

Thanks, @Ingrid_Vekemans! I’m always so delighted when I find light and a subject like this!
