Description

I really hadn’t planned to do too much today after watching a ball game and holding down the couch but I wandered out back and spotted this little lady cavorting around our succulent/cactus garden. She kept landing on a nondescript stick but did jump down to the cactus for just a few seconds. I was set up at just about the right distance and was able to pop off two shots when she landed on the cactus. From there she flew over to the crown of thorns. I got a few safety shots and was maneuvering to get a better plane of focus alignment when a wasp flew by and ran her off. A couple minutes later she landed on one of our trellises and I was able to get progressively closer and more precisely parallel to her body for the higher mag shot. I got close enough that I was getting ready to remove the lens hood hoping for a tight portrait but she had other ideas and fled the scene. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Other than a better plane of focus alignment on #2 do you find the DOF acceptable. No way to try a stack so single captures all.

What a nice series of shots of the damselfly, Bill! I find these guys a little hard to capture is they don’t like me to get close to them, and trying to get them on a nice plain of focus with a nice BG is challenging for me. You did a super job on all three shots, but I think #2 is my favorite. Very nice.

Bill, this is a fine series of views. In #3, her blue sure stands out against the red flowers. #1 comes with a big “ouch” feeling…quite the resting place. I could see dodging her a bit so she “fits” better with the bright surroundings. Your view angle and her details show best in #2.
