Description
A storm approaching, in the Mediterranean summer. The fine texture on the image is the curtain of heavy rain that surrounded me (luckily enough, in a shelter…). The place is Noli, on the Ligurian coast (Italy), a few days ago. It is now some time I am fascinated by the infinite variety of clouds over the sea, be they fluffy and gentle or ominous and dramatic…

I’m chilled just looking at this image, Antonello! It’s dark, very dramatic and moody and it looks almost like a tornado or a water funnel is forming on the right side of the image. The texture of the rain falling in the right portion of the image is something that I can’t say I’ve ever seen before but it speaks to the powerful nature of this summer storm. You might even consider turning this into an even more powerful black and white image with even more contrast making those rain streaks even more prominent. You might want to dodge the very left upper corner as it appears that a vignette was applied and is visible. Good for you to capture this while seeking shelter.
Hi Antonello,
You certainly captured some very dramatic weather conditions in this scene! It is very moody and mysterious with those dark foreboding clouds; especially those on the right side. I find the textures of the falling rain as well as what appears to be a forming funnel cloud to be quite amazing. Fortunately you were in a shelter and were able to capture this drama laden image. My only suggestion would be the same as @David_Haynes about the ULC as it looks a little darker than the surrounding clouds. I hope you were able to capture a few more images while under cover. Very nicely done.
Thank you David and Ed! Happy you liked this quite dramatic scene… I see the point with the ULC, indeed no vignette was applied but instead there was another system of dark clouds just above me to the left of the image. But I agree that dodging a bit the ULC makes for a more balanced image. Yes, I have many others… but I think this one was the most interesting…
