The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Bees and wasps will grab their perch with their mandibles and wait for more favorable conditions like this bumblebee. I found the bee waiting for the rain to end. Their fuzzy bodies provide insulation and waterproofing from cool temperatures and rain.
Specific Feedback
I had to rotate this one quite a bit which forced a very strong crop of the image. I also removed some orphaned leaves of the goldenrod to finish the comp. Do you think that the comp is OK?
I think the comp is fine, and you met your purpose and vision very well. The water drops and the web that looks like it is attached not only to the goldenrod, but also to the bumblebee, certainly indicate that it has been there a while. The color and light further enforce your vision. I really like this one, especially after looking at the largest view. Smallest nit: a couple dust spots (?) top right and to the right of the web.
I really like this, Jim. The lighting is nice, and the BG smooth, giving all attention to the subject. The pose is great, but I really love the water drops on the bee. The composition works for me. Great shot.
I knew this was yours just from the thumbnail! Tack-sharp bee, and the water drops are icing on a delicious cake. Crop looks fine, although maybe a bit tight.
And thanks for the lesson (one of many from the resident entomologist!) - I shot a small bee last summer, early in the morning, and his jaws were clenched on his perch. I didn’t know what was going on.
Very fine image, Jim !
Jim, finding bees, etc. hanging on during/after rain is always good fun and challenging. Your crop here looks fine and the drops on it’s “brow” add well to the story.
I’m late here so can just add a thumbs up to what has been said. A wonderful capture and the water droplets are amazing! I love the droopy antennae and the crop is just fine!!
OMG such fuzzy cuteness on display. I’d give her a little pat for sure. I can’t resist patting bumbles and mostly they’re ok with it. Those water drops are a bonus and I like that you can see some of her face. It looks a tad cyan on my monitor and I wonder if lifting the whites or possibly highlights in the bee might add more life and sparkle to her. Just a thought on a lovely intimate little moment in the life of this bee.
