White-breasted Nuthatch

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve been getting an occasional Nuthatch at the feeders and have been trying for one of their acrobatic poses, but they move faster than I do. This pose from a couple of weeks ago will have to do for now.

Minor global tonality tweaks in LR, thanks to a foggy morning; into PS for denoise and very minor BG cleanup. Cropped to 25% of the original pixels.

Love nuthatches! Fine detail, pose, eye contact, and BG on this little fellow.
Not the tiniest nit from here!

There are so many excellent images in the avian forum (and this is one of them) that it becomes difficult for me to keep from repeating comments and sounding like a broken record. Broken record or not: Love it. “Not the tiniest nit from (me)” either.

I would pretty much echo the entirety of Jim’s comment. Beautiful look at the nuthatch, nicely composed with excellent detail.

Hi Diane, these guys are so fast and hard to catch. Well done to get this capture. Details and exposure look spot on and I like being able to see the topside so well. A fine image.

Hi Diane
This is one of my favorite back yard birds. Nice work.

Excellent, Diane. We don’t get these up here, they stop just this side of the Columbia, so this is a real treat. Beautiful detail and pose.

Love the strong diagonals and the engaging look. They are wicked quick and hard to catch so this is a great result. Super buttery background.

Thanks, @SandyR-B, @Jim_Gavin, @Allen_Brooks, @Allen_Sparks, @peter, @Dennis_Plank and @Kris_Smith! They are quick – I have fun chasing them but 99% are deleted. To make matters worse, the Oak Titmice, which are very plentiful, have started chasing them away as soon as they get near the feeders.
