Description
Because of our warm climate tulips don’t do well for us but Chrissy brought this bunch home from one of her forays to the local nursery. I liked how these two blooms interacted and the surrounding leaves enveloping them. There are several more buds coming up so I hope there are some more good opportunities coming.
Specific Feedback
This is full frame. I think I’m reverting back to my slide capturing days when I always made a conscious effort to fill the frame. Too tight? Just right?

OMG I swear I can smell them. That’s the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this - the heavenly scent of tulips. Not too tight…we know how clustered they grow sometimes, hard to know when to stop, but this seems right. I could see taking down the exposure of the ULC to match the opposite.
Excellent, composition, Bill. I don’t think it’s too tight. The way those leaves fill the frame and cup the tulips is wonderful. An interesting variety. Did you get your full macro rig out to capture that cute curl to the right of the left bloom? It grabbed my attention despite the colors of the blooms.
@Dennis_Plank I used the 70-200 for this series. If I’m doing a stack it is still easier to use than the 200 macro. I did use the 200 with the A7rIII a couple days ago. I have to use an adapter which is a PITA but will work. I find it interesting that none of the main or after market lens makers put out a 200mm macro for mirrorless. At least the image quality of the A77II is pretty good. That lens practically lived on the A77 and I could set up to within a centimeter or two of where I needed to be. I’m getting that way with the 70-200 wearing a tube or two but I do long for the features available with the E mount lenses.
Hi Bill, I love this photo first for the composition with a diagonal sense second for the high light and saturation that, together with a low contrast, gives to me a feeling of pictorial look and almost pastel colors. Beautiful Bill, I am waiting for the other buds to open.
