The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
It’s been a good season for these pennants at the local pond where I go to shoot dragonflies. Typically don’t see very many out and posing.
Specific Feedback
Which shots and angles do you like best? Is it important to see the head well or more of an emphasis on showing the wings and abdomen of this species? I try to catch a variety of angles with an emphasis on showing the wing and tail patterns.

Allen, this is a nice series of shots of this DF. You capture some very nice details in all of the shots. I love DF eyes, so naturally for me, I prefer the poses where I get to see them best. They are all great shots though, and I would be proud of either one of them if they were mine. I wish I had a pond nearby to go shoot DF’s at.
All of them are really nice images, Allen, but the first is definitely my favorite. It has a better look at the face than any of the others, and the angle of the body shows off the wings and abdomen markings as nicely as any of the others.
For me, the first image is the most iconic, especially if you’re most interested in the head and eyes.
The third image is equally as appealing photographically because of the angle it’s perched on the blade of grass.
The fourth one is more of a documentary style image where the wings and the entire body are more orthographic. The brighter green background makes the details in the wings easier to study.
Since I’m personally very familiar with what the head and eyes look like, I prefer the third image over the others, but all of them are very nice and all have a lot of detail as well as visual appeal.
I think the blade of grass going through the frame at an opposite angle from the body of the DF adds a little extra appeal for me.
For me the most attractive feature is the luminosity of all the red parts - so I like the first and third shots better. If I had to choose, I would hang the first one on the wall.
Allen: I’ll take one of each please. Superbly captured all but I will be the contrarian a bit in that I like #4 for the BG and the perch. It is a fairly static comp and if the DF was slanted in the frame I might like it a bit better. For me the lack of view of the eyes is offset by the marvelous wing and body details. Really nice series and a fine effort all around. >=))>
Allen, it’s a fine collection. I prefer the first pose, as it shows a typical perch with good detail throughout. The 4th view is what would be included in a dragonfly ID book. With #3, the color contrast between the DF and the leaf adds well to the view. In the first three you’ve got a nice touch of glow in the wings.
